In this issue we have a variety of articles highlighting the best projects that conservation and hertitage experts have worked on. Fine décor, artisan painting and decorating and bespoke glass solutions are all featured along with the world of audio visual systems.
AV is covered with articles that explain the often complex jargon that is prominent throughout the industry. APi Sound and Visual, specialist audio-visual installers for the church and heritage markets, want to ensure customers can access information they understand by speaking plain and removing the jargon.
Whitwam AV Integration, partnered with renowned PA system supplier Plus 4 Audio and the BBC’s broadcast teams to enable the delivery of a unique audio-visual production at Westminster Abbey on the occasion of the King’s Coronation. Traditional places of worship are notorious for poor acoustics degrading the intelligibility of the spoken word. Ironically, for the hard of hearing UnivoxAudio have largely solved the problem with the development and continuous improvement of Induction loop systems. The Church of St John the Baptist in Royston was hit by a devasting fire which destroyed much of the internal structure and roof of the building. As part of the major refurbishment, Creative Audio-Visual Solutions where commissioned to design and install a completely new audio-visual system to blend with the new décor whilst providing the latest technology for modern Worship.
Whilst not the largest of buildings, Beckford’s Tower is a fascinating collection of spaces. Its renovation offered the QODA MEP and QODA Light design teams some very interesting challenges in achieving the correct environmental conditions for the museum spaces and historic building fabric, and visual aesthetic throughout the variety of spaces. Julian Emery of Emery Brothers, led his team on the structural restoration of the Lantern and conversion of the Our Tower Project at Beckford's Tower base.
The beautiful Grade 1 listed Anglo Saxon church of St. Helen’s in the village of Weathampstead, Hertfordshire is covered, Chroma Conservation Ltd. had the privilege of conserving the unique hand carved and polychrome painted alabaster Garrard Monument. It is of high craftsmanship and dates from 1630 to commemorate the Garrard family who were substantial landowners in and around Wheathampstead.
A detailed look at the restoration of the Camellia House. Where the glazed roof had collapsed, and the centuries-old camellias had outgrown the building. Restored and reimagined historic Camellia House blooms again.
The Soane Stables at The Royal Hospital Chelsea and the refurbishment of the Long Wards at the Royal Hospital Chelsea are featured.
