One particular project of merit is Rochdale Town Hall featured on page 10. Supplied by Donald Insall Associates. This marks the completion of Phase Two within a three-phase project. Creating a 21st-century welcome at the iconic building, improving physical and intellectual access, whilst retaining its orignal beauty.
Congratulations to Stannah Lifts who have won the special purpose lifts category in Elevator world’s Project of the Year Awards, for the lift solution supplied to Grade I Listed Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) restoration project. We are proud to feature the ‘Elevating safety and accessibility inside a well-loved global landmark’ article by David Saunders, Head of Major Projects Division at Stannah Lifts and John Newbold, Director at SVM Associates. Congratulations also to Michelmersh who won 9 coveted brick awards, including the Supreme Award at the Brick Awards ceremony on November 6th. Joined by its integral partners, astute architects and dedicated contractors, the Michelmersh team were filled with gratitude and pride to be involved with such a variety of beautiful award-winning buildings.
Also featured is an excellent article by Paul Trace from Stella Rooflight. who discusses the practicalities involved in specifying large rooflights in heritage properties. Ion Glass describe how valuing the beauty of heritage buildings shouldn’t mean sacrificing modern requirements to the constraints of a former age.
A warning is provided by stone conservation and restoration pioneers Stonehealth who detail the risk of using inferior machinery and unqualified practitioners. With an example of equipment being doctored to look like superior products.
Lime and chalk renders are displayed by Rickards Period Plastering Ltd who have been working on many unique and varied properties within East Anglia since 2012.
